The importance of measurement cannot be overemphasized because It is the basis for virtually every science work. Hence the use of metric thread gauges in metrology. These tools are used for measuring the pitch or lead of screw threads, and they are being referred to as the screw gauge or the pitch gauge. They are available in different types, and we shall briefly take a look at these types for a better understanding of how it works and their specific purposes.
The thread plug gauge: This particular metric thread gauge is used to check the acceptance of a nut or the correctness of a pitch diameter to a given thread pitch inches.
The thread Ring gauge. This thread, on the other hand, is used to check the acceptance of a screw, particularly the external threaded part. They are typically used in mass production due to their quick actions, unlike the other types of Metric thread gauge available. They are quick to use for inspection because unlike other threads that are being screwed in; the parts are slide into them.
The UN thread gauges stands for the Unified national thread gauge, and they are available in many series. UN thread are used for a set of precise thread collection that have uniform or consistent threads per inch and recollect that they're manufactured according to ANSI which means the American National Standard Institute. The UNF: This stands for the Unified national fine thread gauge. As regarding cutting of materials, the UNEF Thread gauge and the UNF thread gauge are easier to tap in harder materials.
The UNC: Which stands for the Unified national coarse thread gauge. It is designed to correct certain manufacturing difficulties resulting from the former standard. An extra tolerance is offered to the UNF threads gauge than for UNC thread gauge of the identical pitch.
The UNEF. This is the Unified national extra fine. They are well used and accepted tools of measurement because they offer quick and accurate measurements. They are also economical and saves cost.
